From startup to scaling: Kasparium takes flight from the robot nest in Odense

From a puzzle-inspired idea to a groundbreaking warehouse system: Kasparium is leaving the incubator at Odense Robotics StartUp Fund at the Danish Technological Institute with a finished prototype, a growing network, and global ambitions.

After a year filled with development, networking, and major milestones, the Danish warehouse automation company Kasparium has completed their time in the incubator at Odense Robotics StartUp Fund at the Danish Technological Institute.

With groundbreaking technology and renewed confidence, they are now ready to take their modular warehouse system out into the world to solve a growing problem for small and medium-sized businesses.

But what has the journey been like, and what does the future hold for Kasparium?

We spoke with founder Morten Bitsch about their experiences and ambitions.

An idea designed to optimize the future

The inspiration behind Kasparium came from something as simple as a puzzle, where pieces are moved around using a single empty space.

This idea turned into a vision: to create a flexible, modular warehouse system and revolutionize warehousing so that companies can work smarter, faster, and more efficiently.

Kasparium’s plug-and-play warehouse system is modular and adaptable, suitable for everything from small e-commerce businesses to larger industrial players.

From idea to functional prototype
When Kasparium joined the Odense Robotics StartUp Fund and moved into the incubator in January 2024, they had an early model of their system and big ambitions.

For Morten and his team, the incubator has been a springboard for realizing their vision.

“We had an idea and a small model, but we lacked the resources to fully develop it. Through the fund, we gained access to experts who helped us with everything from hardware development to safety standards and CE marking,” explains Morten Bitsch, continuing:

“We received guidance to avoid mistakes and make the right decisions from the start. This saved us time and resources. At the same time, the network gave us visibility we wouldn’t have achieved on our own.”

After a year of hard work, Kasparium proudly presented a fully functioning prototype.

“That was a huge milestone for us. Our system could now demonstrate the entire process — from storage and picking to scanning, packing, and shipping. We could show that our idea works in practice,” he says.

A journey full of challenges – and solutions

As a startup, Kasparium had to navigate a world of complex technical challenges and financial uncertainty.

“Denmark is a small country, and it can be hard to find investors with the necessary resources. At the same time, it was challenging to get hardware and software to work perfectly together — it requires many trials,” shares Morten Bitsch.

But it was precisely these challenges that the fund and its incubator helped to address.

“They helped us sharpen our sales and negotiation strategies. At the same time, we gained access to a fantastic network,” says Morten Bitsch.

Visibility and networking pave the way

For Morten Bitsch, the visibility and network that Kasparium achieved through the fund and its collaboration with Odense Robotics and the Danish Technological Institute have been invaluable.

“It was a huge advantage to be part of a program where people from the industry and potential investors visited and discovered us. It led to coffee meetings, stage time at conferences, and participation in trade fairs — opportunities we wouldn’t have had access to without the fund,” the founder shares, adding:

“Even though we are now physically leaving the incubator, we still feel part of a community. There’s a shared interest in our success, and that gives us a strong sense of support.”

Ready for the next step

Now that Kasparium is concluding its time with the fund, the next step is already underway. The company is working on a larger version of their system with 20 modules, and in early April, they showcased it for the first time in their new showroom in Skanderborg.

But their ambitions don’t stop at Denmark.

“Denmark is a great place to start, but we know our growth opportunities lie in international markets. It’s going to be an exciting journey, and we’re ready to take on the challenge,” says Morten Bitsch.

A piece of advice for other startups

Looking back on Kasparium’s journey, Morten Bitsch has one key piece of advice for other entrepreneurs:

“Keep moving forward — even if you don’t have all the answers. Progress only happens when you take action with what you have, even if it’s not perfect.”

He also strongly encourages startups to consider the Odense Robotics StartUp Fund:

“I had my doubts, because I live an hour and a half away from Odense, but it has been completely worth it. The mentoring, the network, and the visibility are invaluable. If you have an idea within robotics technology, go for it. It’s an investment in your company’s future,” he concludes.
